The Jug & Bottle has been owned by the family company, Stange & Co. since 1992. During which time we have seen Heswall change in a number of ways and various pubs and restaurants come and go. Having stood the test of time we have also had to evolve over the years. Many will remember the Jug as a busy tapas restaurant & bar with live music before we decided to change tack, and bring a proper British pub to Heswall serving wholesome British food, local ales and quality wines.
Our food has acquired quite a reputation with people visiting from far and wide to try our delicious choice of pub classics and seasonal specials not to mention our selection of mouth-watering homemade desserts. We are also rated as a 4 star inn for our rooms with Visit England.
Not forgetting our formidable bar with a wide selection of local ales, lagers, wines, spirits, soft and hot drinks. Set with rustic wooden furniture, leather arm chairs and open fires, it’s the perfect stop for a tipple or two or a bite to eat.
The Jug has a large sun terrace that wraps itself around the pub allowing you to catch the sun no matter what time of day it is.
Our pub has free WIFI throughout.
We have a large free car park for customers. As you approach the Jug be sure to park in the right-hand side car park which is ours as the one on the left is ‘pay and display’. Parking is suitable for coaches but please contact the pub in advance so that they can reserve you space.
There is wheelchair access to the pub via a ramp at the front of the building. By all means please call ahead and let us know that you are coming and one of our team will happily be on hand to assist with the doors should you need it. We do have a disabled toilet in the bar with plenty of space for wheelchair access.
Unfortunately we do not have a lift, our bedrooms are accessible by stairs only.
Dogs are welcome in our beer garden as well as in the bar area of the pub so please just ask a member of the team if you cannot see a water bowl and would like a drink for your dog. Feel free to make us the last port of call on your dog walk, there’s always some treats and dogs drink for free!

It hasn’t always been called the Jug & Bottle nor has it always been a pub. Hill House, the original name of the building was built in the 1870s, although parts of the cellar suggest an earlier building on the site. Read more about the history of the Jug HERE.
